Doctoral Training Career Stage (R1)
Main
Most Career Stage models agree on the first career stage to be the phase of doctoral training. It corresponds to R1 in the model by the European Commission (2011)[1] and doctoral training in the career Stage model of the League of European Research Universities (LERU, 2011[2]) as well as in the career stage model of the European Science Foundation (2012)[3]. The doctoral training career stage corresponds to the “Apprentice Stage” in the model of Laudel and Gläser (2008)[4]. Apprentices learn to conduct research while working under the direction of others (Gläser & Laudel, 2015[5]).
